There are plenty of towns in Puerto Rico that owe their success to the sugar cane industry, as a cursory look around the rest of the island’s teams will quickly determine, but Vega Baja is particularly known for the quality of its sugar products, such as syrup and molasses.

Mascot: Ojimelaza

(ojimel “honey-wine beverage” + melaza “molasses”)

Ojimelaza is a sugar glider with a red body, a light blue-and-white face with sharp red markings between its small black eyes, a red nose, and a very worried facial expression. Its tail is striped in light blue, red and white like a candy cane with an art degree.
