The marlin is not an especially favored fish in Puerto Rican cuisine, unlike the grouper and red snapper, but Ceiba’s isolation from the island’s road network and the resulting lack of butcher shops and meat markets gave it an outsized importance in the town’s diet and economy.

Mascot: Pesquilanza

(pez “fish” + pesquisa “investigation” + lanza“spear”)

Pesquilanza, the mascot of the Picudos de Ceiba, is a blue marlin with a blue back, fins, and tail, light blue markings down the side, and a white belly. His blue-eyed stare is quite worried.
