No part of the acoustic cornucopia of the Puerto Rican archipelago is more famous than the tiny coquí, whose cry—potent in total disproportion to its tiny body—is notorious among travelers for its deleterious effects upon sleep. The locals, unsurprisingly, believe precisely the opposite.

(querendongo “beloved” + rana “frog” + veraniego “summery”)
