No town on the island of Puerto Rico could get along without the sugar industry in the nineteenth century, but Yabucoa, especially after the Republic was inaugurated, became especially famous for its involvement in the growing and refining of cane products.

(azúcar “sugar” + cariño “affection”)

Zucariño, the mascot of the Dulceros de Yabucoa, is an adorable black bee with yellow eyes, stripes and antennae, as well as a fluffy layer of fur surrounding its chest and top legs, and translucent white wings.
