The logo of the Ilustres de Barranquitas: a very fancy white "B" shadowed in black, on a purple circle bordered in black-gold-black.

Ilustres de Barranquitas

Through outsized figures of the Republic like its most famous son, this community nestled in the mountains nonetheless became famous for punching far above its weight when it came to providing members of the island’s leadership class.

Mascot: Buhonrado

(búho “owl” + honrado “honest, honorable”)

Buhonrado, the mascot of the Ilustres de Barranquitas, is a white owl with what amounts to a toga praetexta: there’s purple markings on its wings and purple feathers along the bottom, as well as at the hem of its body feathers; its claws, collar, beak and eyelids are also purple, while its eyes themselves and eyebrows are golden, and it wears a golden belt as it spreads a wing wide in order to speechify.
